Athletes of Spring preparing through the Winter

Most students, when the clock hits 2:20, hurry toward the doors to get to their cars, and buses so that they can get home or to work, but there are many others kids who continue their day not in the classroom but in the weight room or on the indoor track in the BAC, training and bettering themselves for the upcoming season.

There is a long line of spring sports offered at Buffalo High School including boys’ baseball, girls’ softball, coed track and field, boys and girls lacrosse, co-ed golf and boys’ tennis. There are kids involved in all sports that stay after to work out of course

“So far we have had very good numbers of people staying after with a majority who work very hard,” said Strength and Conditioning coach Troy Hanson.

Hanson stresses the importance of intensity in a work out and the importance of getting a full body workout.

“I want kids to reach their full potential as athletes,” said Hanson.

Not all athletes are doing the exact work outs of course. Some athletes such as baseball players are usually focusing more on upper body lifts while track runners will spend most of their time doing leg lifts and running on the track. Occasionally a coach will be in the weight room checking in on athletes to see how their off season training is progressing.
There is a lot of anticipation for the upcoming Spring season for all sports. The upcoming track season is highly anticipated considering the fact that the boys track and field team won a State Championship in 2007.

The track team is currently trying to recruit more and more athletes to make the team a strong state competitor. The boys Lacrosse team is very excited for the upcoming season because they raised thousands of dollars to move the team from being a club team not related to the school too an official school sport. It looking like a very promising season for Girls’ Lacrosse coming off a state appearance last year and also boys golf is hoping to have a standout season with two returning varsity stars, Alex Holtan and Morgan Lubben, who are seniors this year.

Overall there is much anticipation for the upcoming season considering all the effort that is being put in during the off season.
