Registration has kids thinking about next year early

For many juniors, sophomores and especially freshman, next year’s school schedule is the last thing on their minds considering they’re barely even half way through their current school year. However, counselors, who have to get everything planned out and ready for next year, need the students’ decisions on their next year’s classes ASAP.

At the begginning of the 2nd semester, the counselors are already having kids register for next year. To some, this may seem early, but, “It is definitely  to the advantage of the students,” said Student Counselor Gloria Rose. “There isn’t any noticable reaction from the students, they are usually asking lots of questions and interested in learning about what classes they should take.”

In recent years, kids registered on a sheet of paper and they handed them into the counselors, but now they have moved the registration online which greatly simplifies the process for the counselors. The online procees helps them prepare the school for next year in ways like deciding what classes will be offered and cut and also

staffing and faculty needed for the classes.

Of course there is much anticipation for the upcoming year’s classes.

“There wont be really any cuts class wise and faculty wise as far as we can see,” said student counselor Kristen Lane.

According to Lane some teachers that currently teach an overload schedule – four classes instead of the

normal three – will be teaching a normal load of three next year, which could lead to slightly higher class sizes.
