Meet Mr. Schultz

Long term Substitute James Schultz is teaching Science Teacher Greg Hygrell’s Natural Resources and Biology classes while Hygrell takes time off. Schultz thought at Osseo High School for 32 years and Japan for one before retiring this September.  He also coached Nordic skiing as well as one of his favorite sports, Girls and Boys Soccer.
“I started the soccer team in Stillwater the first Varsity team,” he said. “I was the one who started that as a teenager.  I love soccer.”

He lives in Buffalo on what used to be 20 acres of pure pasture, but now is 20 acres of reconstructed woods and prairie.

“I took a look at it and I saw what it could be instead of what it was,” said Schultz. “As soon as I bought it all I immediately bulldozed a big wetland into it, took down all the barbed wire fences, plowed up about half of it up and turned it to prairie.  A year later, I built my house.”

He has taken time away from home to see places that many students never have, mostly to see things that he may never be able to see in a few years.

“I travel all over the world mostly for wildlife. I want to see parts of the world that are being destroyed before they are destroyed and animals too. I’ve seen black rhinos, I’ve seen white rhinos.  There are only ten or so left in the wild.”After being at Buffalo High school for three weeks  Schultz describes what his time with the students and staff.

“I like Buffalo. Most of the students are very very nice,” said Schultz. “The teachers are fantastic here, everybody has been willing to help me.  People have gone out of their way to say hi that  makes me feel very welcome.  The administration has bent over backwards to help me.”
