The Hottest Ticket in Town

The six-ticket limit for seniors poses a problem for some and an opportunity for others

With graduation day approaching, seniors are eagerly counting down the days until they can walk and receive their diplomas. Seeing family, friends and the feeling of accomplishment makes school seem worth it. With the excitement of graduation, families are also forced to face the six-ticket limit. Every senior can choose up to six people to watch their commencement ceremony, often leaving out friends and even close family members.

However, the De Young triplets are reaping the benefits of this system.

“Each graduating senior gets 6 tickets, our family is awarded 18 tickets because we have three graduating seniors,” said Sufi De Young ‘25. “Since we are privileged to have all three of us graduating at the same time, we all individually get the same benefits as graduating seniors.”

Sufi, a senior at Buffalo High School, is a triplet. Her sisters, Mazie De Young and Gaia De Young all have had similar experiences with strange questions being asked to them about tickets.

“There have been many, many people asking for extra tickets,” says Sufi De Young. “Some people whom I haven’t ever talked to in my high school career ask for tickets.”

The De Youngs do not plan to use all of the tickets, but because of their large family size, only three will be left over. The De Youngs would like to give a ticket to people who really need them, like a senior who has a grandparent wanting to attend the graduation, prioritizing that over giving them to people who will use them for their underclassmen friends.

Cadence Baloun has another approach to this situation. The Baloun family plans to sell extra tickets and make a small profit out of it.

With graduation right around the corner, it is important for loved ones to witness a senior’s one and only high school graduation. With the ticket limit, important people in many student’s lives will not be able to attend. The De Young and Baloun family having extra tickets is causing tensions to rise among their peers and extra tickets will most likely be given to their friends or people who are in need of them.
