Can There Be a Video Game That Challenges Your Mind?

Most video games people hear about are violent games like Call of Duty or Battlefield.   Not every game is violent though, some games can even challenge your brain.  That’s not to say that COD (Call of Duty) doesn’t challenge your brain, it’s just not made around that concept.   Then in 2011 Valve Corp. came out with a video game called Portal 2.

“It is a puzzle solving game. You need to place different portals in positions to get from point A to point B,” said Senior Justin Theien

Sounds easy right?

But in reality it’s not that easy. The concept makes sense; use portals to get to the exit.  But the portals have to be placed in certain areas for the player to get to the exit.  On the website The Guardian, writer Nick Cowen says, “The puzzle rooms are incredibly well designed in that there’s no hard and fast rule with the game’s difficulty curve … Even if one player finds the solution to one particular room obvious..some puzzles may take up to hour to solve…”.

Although the game isn’t easy it can be entertaining to some people. Even the idea of it challenging the players mind can be intriguing.

“It [Portal 2] helps with problem solving and critical thinking skills,” said Senior Dan Kelly.
