Buffalo High School’s last day of school is June 6. The next day, June 7th, seniors get their diplomas, but is Buffalo really behind in wrapping up the end of the school year?

  • Annadale’s last day of school is June 2, but seniors graduate on May 17.
  • Monticello’s last day of school is June 5, but seniors graduate before the last day of school on May 31.
  • St. Michael Albertville’s last day of school is June 4, but seniors graduate on May 31.
  • Maple Lake’s  last day of school is June 4, but seniors graduate on May 31.

“I wish we graduated early too,” Senior Noah Klingelhoets said, “But I know we have longer breaks, and I would rather have longer breaks than get out early.”

With all of the changes going on at Buffalo, could their new senior privileges be like all of the neighbor schools and have them finish school before grades 9-11 does?

Would you rather have Buffalo's' school calendar, or a different school districts calendar?

Buffalo High School Softball Bounces Back From Tough Loss https://www.hoofprint.net/buffalo-high-school-softball-bounces-back-from-tough-loss/2019/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=buffalo-high-school-softball-bounces-back-from-tough-loss Mon, 20 May 2019 18:06:27 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=24590 Buffalo High Schools’ Softball team had a tough loss back in Becker on Friday, April 26th. It was 2-1, Buffalo was winning, last inning with 2 outs. A pop fly was hit out into center field from a Becker player, the center fielder went for the ball, and dove, but the ball fell out of her glove. Becker wins 3-2. This loss dropped Buffalo to a record of 4-5 on the season, which is under .500 for a team who made it to State the past 4 years.

After the hard loss, Buffalo Bison Softball Girls had a lot of room for redemption.

Senior Mckenzie Pawelk said, “It was a tough game to play, but we shouldn’t have that one game put us in a bad mood. We just have to start talking to each other during games and just support each other. ”

Since that game, the team returned to the winning that characterized their past four seasons. The team has four wins and two losses in the last six games. Girls softball has only three games remaining, one of which is a Mississippi 8 Conference game at home against Big Lake, on Thursday May 16th. The last time Varsity Softball played Big Lake, they won 3-1. The team won 5 of their past 7 games, and is now above .500 (9-8 and third in Conference) with two games left to play.

Update: Bison Softball finished the season with a record of 9-9 after losing their final game against Anoka 7-1. They now head into the section playoff with a 4th seed, they play Moorhead, the 5th seed, tomorrow at 5:30pm at home. Softball sections it is a double elimination tournament. Which promises the team at least two more games.

Rumors emerge about a school-wide drug search https://www.hoofprint.net/rumors-emerge-about-a-school-wide-drug-search/2019/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rumors-emerge-about-a-school-wide-drug-search Fri, 26 Apr 2019 17:37:31 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=24372 Last week, when everyone returned from spring break, Buffalo High School removed all of the doors to the bathrooms. It caused a great deal of discussion and some push back from students, but it remains to be seen if it impacted student behavior.

A senior at Buffalo High School stated, “I didn’t really care that they [Buffalo High School] took down the doors. The first day we all came back after Spring Break, I was hitting my dab pen in the bathroom, like nothing has changed.”

Some students didn’t see an issue with removing the bathroom doors, and supported the change.

A junior at Buffalo stated, “I don’t really care that they took the doors off, I hope it means fewer kids will vape at school.”

Now, there’s a rumor floating around the school that Officer Jacobson is bringing in a drug dog during an upcoming school day. It is said that no one knows that actual date of this search, but admin has sent out an email to all of BHS staff members.

Drug-sniffing dogs can smell the nicotine in e-cigs very easily.

So the real question is, is admin really going follow through with it or did they just do this to scare the students?

More Than 45 Percent of Students at Buffalo High School Traveled for Spring Break https://www.hoofprint.net/more-than-45-percent-of-students-at-buffalo-high-school-traveled-for-spring-break/2019/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=more-than-45-percent-of-students-at-buffalo-high-school-traveled-for-spring-break Tue, 16 Apr 2019 18:13:46 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=24260 Spring Break for Buffalo High School was from March 29 through April 5, and more than a third of the school traveled somewhere outside of Minnesota.

In a study from Chicago Tribune, they found that more than 50 percent of students travel for their spring break. The most popular travel destinations for the U.S. is Mexico, Punta Cana, Florida, and California.

For the Buffalo High School students, 45 percent of the kids traveled outside of Minnesota. Some of the most popular travel destinations were Arizona, Florida, Punta Cana, and Mexico.

Senior Mitch Green traveled to Arizona for spring break.

“I have never been to Arizona before,” Green said, “and it was nice to get out of Minnesota, and into warm weather for a week.”

Even though some of the kids didn’t travel this spring break, they still found something productive to do.

Senior Sydney Schwartz stayed in Minnesota during spring break.

“I had three softball games I couldn’t miss,” Schwartz said, “and if I missed softball I would have been benched.”

Which is Cheaper: School lunches or home lunches? https://www.hoofprint.net/which-is-cheaper-school-lunches-or-home-lunches/2019/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=which-is-cheaper-school-lunches-or-home-lunches Thu, 21 Mar 2019 18:05:48 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=24090 Lunch at Buffalo High School costs $2.90 for the basic meal plan, but it could easily rise once a student grabs stuff from the a la cart area. With so many kids bringing home lunches, which one is really the cheaper choices?

With over 100 people surveyed at Buffalo High School, 55 percent of the students said that they bring a home lunch, and 45 percent said that they get a school lunch.

Lunch at school for a week costs about $14.50, with the basic meal plan. For the whole school year it costs about $493 if a student doesn’t add any extras and eats school lunch every day.

Sophomore Jack Ryden eats a school lunch daily.

“I don’t have time in the morning to pack a school lunch,” Ryden said, “and my parents buy terrible food at the store. So I just get a school lunch.”

Lunch brought from home costs about $3.10 a day. This is calculated based on the daily recommendation of all of the food groups. So for a full year of school days it would cost about $527.

Senior Sydney Schwartz has brought a lunch from home since her freshman year.

“I really hate going through the line during lunch, and my sister packs my own lunch,” Schwartz said.

School lunches may be cheaper, and some students qualify for further discounts, but it is really all up to individual preferences.

Funny Hockey Moments; J Gold vs. Varsity https://www.hoofprint.net/funny-hockey-moments-j-gold-vs-varsity/2019/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=funny-hockey-moments-j-gold-vs-varsity Fri, 15 Mar 2019 18:14:02 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=23681 BHM Schools are not extending the school year (yet), even as neighboring districts add days due to cancellations https://www.hoofprint.net/bhm-schools-are-not-extending-the-school-year-yet-even-as-neighboring-districts-add-days-due-to-cancellations/2019/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=bhm-schools-are-not-extending-the-school-year-yet-even-as-neighboring-districts-add-days-due-to-cancellations Tue, 19 Feb 2019 19:03:51 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=23319 With five snow days under Buffalo High Schools’ belt, everyone is asking about what will happen next. Rockford has already taken away Presidents Day, and is making their kids go to school that day. St. Michael-Albertville has extended their school year. Minnesota state law says that each school district must have at least 170 open school days.

Buffalo School District has scheduled 174 open school days in the 18-19 school year calendar.

“Our next steps for the school district if we end up going below the 170 school days is that we will either have to have a staff development day and have that count as a school day,” Mischke states, “We could also take away a day that we don’t have school and have the kids go, but right now that isn’t an option.”

As of now Buffalo School District is not taking any action on extending or taking away any school days. But more snow days could spark the conversation of extending the rest of the school year.

On January 31, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said that schools will not be penalized if they do not make up for days lost to cold weather even if they fall below the 165 required days of instruction.
