Some performed late in the evening but stayed at school until their scheduled performance to get their last bits of practice in while trying not to worry too much about the judges.

Students have been preparing themselves for Solo and Ensembles since January, one of those being Kyra Sorensen, a pink haired freshman new to the annual tradition in the music department.

This was only the judging portion and not the actual competition, but the practice helps many with improving.

“We’ve taken quite a bit of time to go out and practice,” said Sorensen, speaking for both them and their partner who would be doing a duet to “Homeward Bound” later at 8:10 p.m..

Buffalo has way more music opportunities than many other schools. Kyra came from a different school where musical opportunities were much fewer.

“Singing in front of a judge and then giving you tips definitely helps you improve and look over what you did that I liked and what did I do that I wanted to improve,” said Sorensen after their performance, which was a success because of their Superior rating and a celebratory trip to McDonald’s.

Winter Concert reunites all bands for the first time since 2020 https://www.hoofprint.net/winter-concert-reuintes-all-bands-for-the-first-time-since-2020/2022/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=winter-concert-reuintes-all-bands-for-the-first-time-since-2020 Fri, 25 Feb 2022 21:22:32 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=26319 On February 14, 2022 Concert, Varsity and Freshman band performed in the PAC, marking the potential end of the hardships distance learning caused in the music department. This was the first time Freshmen and Concert band had a concert together in two years. Though they didn’t play together, there were still benefits to hearing each other play.

“It was the first view I got of the concert band and I was just sitting there completely awestruck. I didn’t even know what to do. I was just sitting there looking at the stage like it was unbelievable,” said Mollie Helppi ‘25.

During distance learning music was taken away. Students were behind screens leaving them unmotivated and unwilling to work. But now that normal school is back to some degree students are able to enjoy their classes again. Especially the music kids without being forced to play there was little to no progress with many of their concerts taken away.

“Being a senior myself I feel like I’m more used to different types of playing and hearing different things and sitting there and hearing the freshman and the varsity band and thinking it was amazing to see how many people could possibly be coming into band in the future I honestly love the band program here and I wish it the best,” said Brynna Bettis ‘22.
