The affection that he sees as he supervises the Freshman Hallway ranges from small hugs to even intense kissing.

These sights have become so common some people just ignore the gestures as they pass a couple in the hall.

“PDA in the halls makes me ill and I need to carry a bag around with me because I get nauseous,” jokes Davidson as he perches on top of a tall chair, watching the students in the lunchroom.

PDA can be found all over BHS, few do it but, many see it. Are these couples completely oblivious to the people around them, or do they simply not care?

“PDA is okay in my opinion,” said one student at BHS who chooses to be openly affectionate in the hallways. ”My friends don’t really mind it and I like showing my affection.”

“We feel like it’s acceptable because most of our friends do it too,” said another couple.

According to the New York Times, people either show PDA to flaunt the strength of their relationship or to mask the weakness within it.

“Sometimes I feel uncomfortable when I see people show PDA, because I wonder if that is how my boyfriend and I look,” explains a student who frequently takes part in PDA.

“I show PDA to show that I care about my girlfriend, that I pay attention to her and show her that she matters to me,” said an anonymous student.

The New York Times states that showing PDA is okay in some public places more than others. Studies have found that PDA is more acceptable in places of meeting or departure, places like airports or train stations. For most students, PDA during school hours is awkward for them but as soon as it’s time to leave school it’s more accepted.

“PDA is absolutely disgusting at school, but administration can’t stop it,” said Junior Ryan Miller. “Some students have to get some common sense and understand that sticking their tongues down each other’s throats is not appropriate.”

Josh Ortmann named new Bison Basketball Head Coach https://www.hoofprint.net/josh-ortmann-named-new-bison-basketball-head-coach/2016/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=josh-ortmann-named-new-bison-basketball-head-coach Wed, 11 May 2016 17:30:03 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=20986 On May 5th, 2016, the Buffalo Bison named all-time leading scorer Josh Ortmann the new Head Coach of the Boys’ Varsity Basketball team. Ortmann will replace Nick Guida, who has coached the Bison for the past decade and change.

Josh Ortmann graduated from Buffalo High School in 2007, where he set a team record for all-time points. Ortmann played his college basketball at St. Cloud State University, where he led the Huskies to a final-four appearance.

Coach Ortmann is very excited to coach this young talented team. He will hope to continue the legacy that Mr. Guida left behind. “It’s an exciting opportunity. I’ve been able to play for coach Guida and now I get to build off a lot of the expectations that he left behind.” Ortmann said. “I will continue to lead the Bison in a positive direction and I can’t wait to get started coaching this group.”

There might be some nerves going into a coach’s first season, but not for Ortmann. “I wouldn’t say that I’m nervous. I’m very excited about the opportunity ahead and I can’t wait to get to work and lead this team to success.” Ortmann said.

Maggie Socha Qualifies for the 2016 National FFA Convention https://www.hoofprint.net/maggie-socha-qualifies-for-the-2016-national-ffa-convention/2016/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=maggie-socha-qualifies-for-the-2016-national-ffa-convention Mon, 02 May 2016 17:09:40 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net?p=20919&preview_id=20919 A dim light shined over the stage as the FFA State officers called the last few Career Development Event (CDE) finalists. After three long days of competing, sleep deprivation, and never being able to change out of official dress the Buffalo FFA Chapter was exhausted and ready to go home. FFA State Convention is a social event for most of us, but competing comes in at a close second place. As we study and practice every week to earn a trip to Nationals. Sadly, the odds haven’t been in our favor this year.

Although everyone was tired and ready to go home a light shined in one girl’s eyes. Maggie Socha a Buffalo High School Junior, had gone through two rounds of the Prepared Public Speaking CDE and had advanced to the final round. The top five made an appearance on stage to receive a plaque and see who advances to nationals. Maggie had been practicing her speech for months and had been in this CDE for a few years. Everyone had faith in her, and our chapter couldn’t have been more proud of her making it into the top five.

As the day dragged on we all fought to stay awake for one single moment,  to see what place Maggie would get. Tensions were high and the time couldn’t go by any slower, she was the last CDE called and we couldn’t wait. As the end grew near our adrenaline went up and our stomachs began to drop as they were called out onto the stage.

A girl that had showed true passion for agriculture was about to prove how much she loved it. As they began to enter the stage we all stood up, waiting and watching. Only the top four got recognized and congratulated. It was anyone’s guess what would happen next, as the room fell quiet time seemed to also stop, no one could image what Maggie was feeling. As we peered over the railing out in front of us the names began to get called.  From fourth to first, names we didn’t recognize or care about were being called. Fourth then third and second, finally two people were left. One to go home with it all, and one whose name wouldn’t even be mentioned. We grabbed each other’s hands and held our breath. “This year’s first place winner, who will be advancing to nationals is Maggie Socha from the Buffalo FFA Chapter!” Says the announcer. Instantly tears filled our eyes and our hearing was temporarily lost. A girl who spent countless hours working on her speech, practicing, and performing it had gotten exactly what she deserved, a chance to compete with the best of the best at nationals this coming October. The first person to make it to nationals from Buffalo in years. An unforgettable event that was an honor to experience.

Seniors Share Feelings on Graduation https://www.hoofprint.net/seniors-feelings-on-graduation/2016/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=seniors-feelings-on-graduation Thu, 18 Feb 2016 17:51:13 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=20552 seniorhall

As the year is quickly coming to a close most high school students have a lot on their minds. Seniors have a little more than most, their lives are just beginning and they’re taking on a new chapter. Stereotypical senior rumors like senior slide have been circulating the halls for years, but this leaves us with a common question. What do seniors really think when they think about high school coming to an end?

The past four years of high school have probably had it’s ups and downs, but a bitter sweet ending is coming and mixed emotions are being felt. Most people are very happy to be leaving the torture chamber known as school. But, what memories will they carry with them?

“A really good memory was when I was a sophomore and the boys basketball team went to state, that was cool, it was fun to watch them.” says Emily Linderholm.

The years have been filled with prosperous moments, moments that made people feel on top of the world.

“I’d want to relive 9th grade because I made a lot of friends in 9th grade.” says Zach Hancock.

People made life long friends through these years and they are so grateful for this.

Unfortunately, some people haven’t had experiences like Linderholm and Hancock.

“I hated high school,” said Senior Logan Otto. “I never got along with my teachers and school just really isn’t for me.”

Although Otto about how much he hated high school he does think he’ll miss it.

“A year from now I’ll probably look back on high school and wish I was back here in this warm building instead of working outside and freezing,” Otto said.
Although many people will remember high school very different it will always be apart of them. As the seniors graduate this June they will be brought together through one common thing, Buffalo High School. They came here together and they are leaving together, and their memories of this high school will live on.
