The Agony of taking a Five Hour Test.. https://www.hoofprint.net/the-agony-of-taking-a-five-hour-test/2018/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-agony-of-taking-a-five-hour-test Tue, 22 May 2018 18:28:17 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=22513 After taking the ACT just this past month on April 24th, being at the school from 8:50 in the morning, then leaving at 1:30 in the afternoon, and the only time off from testing is a 15 minute break after the second test.

That can get to be pretty long, especially for people who don’t have much patience, or just genuinely hate taking tests. With limited time to answer the questions for the sections, it can be hard to complete all of them before the time is up.

With the ACT having such an importance in our life, whether it’s for college, or a job, students know that getting a good score will benefit them in the long run.

Will Spring Sports have to be Played in the Snow? https://www.hoofprint.net/will-spring-sports-have-to-be-played-in-the-snow/2018/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=will-spring-sports-have-to-be-played-in-the-snow Fri, 20 Apr 2018 18:30:07 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=22308 As Buffalo continues to get drenched with snow, spring sports events have had to be delayed. From golf meets that were supposed to be held in Big Lake and Monticello to baseball and softball games that were supposed to be held over Spring Break this past week. With all these delays, the schedule for the outdoor sports will be condensed, which will most likely cause athletes to miss more classes this quarter. With the forecast saying that the Buffalo area is going to get nearly a foot of snow this coming weekend, that won’t help the start. On Tuesday, April 10th, the Track and Field teams couldn’t wait any longer, so St. Michael held a meet inside one of their gymnasiums. With that said, let’s see what some of the athletes think, regarding the sudden delays.

The first athlete I talked to is basketball/ softball star Jordan Zrust. The first question I asked her was ” How have your softball practices been so far?” She responded with, “We so far have been inside, and we can only do so much. We mostly just hit off tees and in the batting cages, but field is different, because we can’t use a normal ball inside, so we have to use a “softy”, so that we don’t wreck anything by overthrowing. We only practice until 5, because we get kicked out of our gym space. We’d be lucky if we get to go outside anytime soon.”

On the follow up, I asked, “Will your month of May be packed, and possibly cause you to miss more school than usual?” Zrust then stated, ” Yeah most likely. We will be playing every day of the week and double headers might be cut down to 5 innings. We will also have to get out early on every game day.”

Now, I thought I would give my opinion on what my practices have been like for golf for the past few weeks. We have been practicing inside the Civic Center and hitting balls into nets, and using the workout facility. It felt good just to be able to use something, because most of us haven’t had the opportunity to play since this past fall, and with the weather not cooperating, we are all unsure when we will start having meets. One thing we do know is that May is going to be busy, and the amount of school that the team already misses, will be much more than usual with the packed schedule.

In conclusion, this year has been nothing but a little out of the ordinary, and I, for one am getting a little tired of the snow. I am just ready for the golf courses to open, and be able to have meets. Now, after getting over a foot of snow this past weekend, the start of spring sports games/matches are only going to get delayed even longer into the season.

The Test that Could Decide our Future… https://www.hoofprint.net/the-test-that-could-decide-our-future/2018/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-test-that-could-decide-our-future Tue, 27 Mar 2018 18:30:22 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=22158 As the ACT test is coming up in April, the test that could very well determine the outcome of our future, the students here at BHS are starting to realize that the day is almost here, and that we need to be ready for it.  Throughout the Junior and Senior class, some will be nervous, others will be excited to see how they do, and then there will be a group of students that couldn’t care less about it. As the time nears, I thought I would catch up with some of the students to see what they’re thinking going into it?

I was able to catch up with Junior Travis Bradford, and asked him “What are your thoughts going into the test?”, he then answered with “Do well, it will help my future.”

I then proceeded to ask him “What are you most worried about?”, he then said “I’m not too worried about it.”

Then I talked to Junior Mitch Green, who had already taken it this past summer. Green, when asked, “How did you feel going into it?”, he responded with ” I had taken the Pre-ACT, so I knew what to expect, but I was still a little nervous to make easy mistakes.”

I followed up with asking Green “What will you do differently the next time?”, he then said “I’ll definitely get more sleep, and use my time more wisely. I rushed things a little too much last time, especially on the reading section.”

In conclusion, students are looking at the test in completely different ways, and I am interested to see how emotions can effect students’ overall scores on the test. After reading this article, how are you feeling going into it?

Boys Golf Hopes to have “Hole in One” Type Season https://www.hoofprint.net/boys-golf-hopes-to-have-hole-in-one-type-season/2018/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=boys-golf-hopes-to-have-hole-in-one-type-season Mon, 12 Mar 2018 17:36:15 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=22026           As spring approaches, the golf team will be getting going right after Spring Break. A young team with a lot of potential to make a good run this season. With three juniors, River Goodmanson, Nate Persson and John Russett leading the way. Complemented by two sophomores, Joe Carothers and Walter Ylitalo. With a strong friendship inside and outside of golf, the five look to make the first team state participation since 2015. Last year, our very own River Goodmanson played well enough to make it as an individual, and has high hopes that we an make it altogether this year. With a few of the other schools in the conference losing seniors, our chances of taking the conference title have risen, and we just have to take the opportunity. With that said, I was able to catch Joe Carothers to see what he is looking forward to this season…

When asked what he is looking forward to most this season, Joe Carothers responded with “ I am looking forward to hanging out with the boys, and having a good chance at winning sections and conference.”

After hearing about how he enjoys his time with the boys, I then asked “ What is your favorite part about playing with the boys?” He responded with “ Just being out there and having fun. Laughing, playing games and making jokes.”

Following the previous unsuccessful years to make it to state, Carothers says “ If we all play to our potential, I think we have a good chance to make a state appearance.”

Since Carothers has been on the team now for what will be his third year, I thought I would ask him who his mentors have been, and he said “ Probably the seniors, and the older kids that just set up everything in a fun mood, and make me want to be there.”
