Ranked number four in the State with a post-conference mile time of 4:20, Basten is competing against the fastest athletes in Minnesota.

“[During] the cross country season at one point I was sixth, and then last track season I finished seven,” Basted said. “I’ve always been flirting with the top ten [runners in the state]… but I’ve never been top four”

Basten said he is “ready to go” for sections. Ideally, Isaac would like to be a State Champion in Track or Cross Country.

“That’s been my dream since I was like, five years old,” Basten said. “I just want to [Personal Record] in everything, probably run a 15:30 in the 5k. Somewhere close to 9:30 in the two mile.”

Isaac recalls running at the Hamline Elite Meet, an invitation meet for Minnesota’s top runners.

“Instead of just, like, finishing middle of the pack, [I was] trying to win it this year,” Basten said.

Thanks to Isaac’s prestigious standings in his athletic career, he’s getting a lot of attention from colleges.

“It’s been probably the most fun process out of all of this… I’ve had a few non-official visits, because you can’t go on official visits until you’re a senior,” said Basten. “I’ve been out too Purdue, and I went too Iowa, and then I went too the U of M… I’ve been staying in contact with a lot of their coaches too.”

Isaac Basten will be competing in a state competition this Thursday, in the 3200-meter race, in St. Paul.

Theater Majors Off to College https://www.hoofprint.net/theater-majors-off-to-college/2018/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=theater-majors-off-to-college Thu, 24 May 2018 17:49:54 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=22769 The end of the year is approaching, and Seniors are expected to have their lives, for the next two to four years mapped out. Some will attend military school, others want a doctorate, and yet still others… Want to go into theater.

Senior Harrison Bjorback will be attending University of Minnesota-Duluth as a Theater Major specializing in Tech Direction.

“I will have to do a couple of shows at college. I know one I definitely want to do up at UMD is… the musical Sister Act.” said Harrison. “The [professional theater] job market is fairly open, because they’re always looking for people to help out.”

“In college I’m going to University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse, and I’m going to major in stage management with a minor in arts administration,” said Senior Grace Happe.

Happe has been involved with theater programs since she was six, starting with Buffalo Community Theater.

“When I got to the high school… Eventually I became a stage manager. I realized that I could make a career out of this hobby. I realized I could spend the rest of my life doing this.”

Grace recently got an internship for a program in Minneapolis, called Theater Latte Da. She will be working there as a stage manager.

“After college, I’d like to go to New York City,” Happe said. “Eventually I want to come back home, to Minnesota, because my family’s here. My arts administration minor will allow me to do in-site booking [and] manage the business side of theater.”

As eight teams settled in for the meet, Sam Twardy, Senior, talked about the teams performance.
“[It’s been] good. We’ve been breaking records.”, Twardy said. “A lot of girls PRed.”
“Everyone’s improved so much.” said Freshman Alayna Mills, “We’ve gotten so close. I’ve learned a lot… Met a lot of amazing people. This season has really shaped me.”
When asked about their favorite moment with the team, both Sam and Alayna smiled.
“There’s so many.” said Alayna, “It’s hard to just pick one.”
Sam mentioned Senior Night. “The underclassmen made speeches about the seniors… We all cried.”
After the eighth and final rotation, Alayna commented on the meet.
“The Section meet’s going so well.” she said, “Everyone’s doing really well, performing well, confident.”
Sam was less optimistic, but still confident. When asked about the teams performance, Sam answered “Good. They gave us some kind of low scores.”
In the final minutes after the eighth rotation, while the final scores are being tabulated, Buffalo sat together in a circle. Nervous chatter pervaded the gymnasium, but Buffalo was calm and collected.
