Monday mornings are hard for almost everyone. Having to awake from a nice weekend and go to school is not always your first priority.

“The way I dress depends on the day of the week,” said Sophomore Marissa Fox. “The beginning of the week are lazy days, but Thursdays and Fridays I actually try!”

Starting on those dreadful Monday mornings and ending on those awesome Fridays make all the difference in the world.

“I wake up, and whatever I put on is what I wear to school,” said Sophomore Sterling Hollie.

Everyone has personal preferences, and some do not care what they wear or what day of the week it is.

“It doesn’t matter what day of the week it is, my outfit is sweatpants and sweatshirts, being at school all day I make sure that i will be comfy,” said Senior Jaime Floer.

Are HeadPhones a Distraction? https://www.hoofprint.net/are-headphones-a-distraction/2015/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=are-headphones-a-distraction https://www.hoofprint.net/are-headphones-a-distraction/2015/#respond https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=19585 Walking through the halls of BHS you begin to notice the large amount of students with headphones in their ears. Depending on the person music can either block out noise, or for others it can enhance their ability to focus.

“Music makes me block out all of the haters,” said Junior Mia Janke “It helps me focus and do what I need to do.”

Students don’t see it as a problem, but certain teachers on the other hand have a different perspective.

“We are not at a Justin Bieber concert,” said Social Studies Teacher Mrs. Khalil. “You don’t need to be wired up in school. It is time to focus here.”

For instance, some teachers believe that music can increase students ability to focus. They do not see an issue regarding headphones during work time.

“I don’t want to be the phone/headphone police,” said Science Teacher Mrs. Rodenwald. “During independent work time I have no issue with kids listening to their own music, as long as they are working hard.”

Procrastination https://www.hoofprint.net/procrastination-2/2015/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=procrastination-2 Mon, 23 Mar 2015 17:22:43 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=19560 Procrastinating is one of the easiest things in the world to do, but it can make things so much more stressful in the end. Everything you’ve put to the side is now officially due, and a mass majority of teenagers these days don’t just go to school. They go to school, play sports, and have after school jobs.

“Procrastination is so easy, I just wrote an essay that got assigned like a month ago,” said Junior Emily Torgerson.

Procrastination is most commonly found among teenagers, but can be a lifelong habit.

“I procrastinate more often then I probably should. It brings in a whole new factor, and actually causes me to do more work, deadlines happen, and other priorities have to come first and it just makes keeping on top of things not so easy,” said Deb (Optum Health Director.)

Meeting deadlines might not be easy, but procrastination won’t make it any easier.

“Putting things off sounds like the easier route, but really in the end I only become more stressed out,” said Sophomore Cassie Whited

Do it now. Sometimes ‘later’ becomes ‘never.’

E-Cigs: Harmful or Not? https://www.hoofprint.net/e-cigs-harmful-or-not/2015/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=e-cigs-harmful-or-not Mon, 02 Mar 2015 18:08:53 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=19267 Cigarettes. Cigarettes kill 400,000 Americans per year. They are legal, but very lethal. It is said that one of out every five Americans are addicted.

There is now an alternative product called E-Cigs.  An E-Cig is a “battery powered vaporizer which has a similar feel to tobacco smoking.”

There is limited evidence suggesting that e-cigarettes are more safe than traditional cigarettes. Electronic cigarette usage appears to be similar in toxicity to the use of other nicotine replacement products. No long-term studies have shown that e-cigarettes are a “healthier alternative” to traditional cigarettes.

So why smoke them?

“They are fun, and you can do cool tricks with them. They also taste good, but they are mostly fun,”  said an Anonymous Junior

Altogether, in 2012 more than 1.78 million middle and high school students nationwide had tried e-cigarettes. This raises concern that there may be young people for whom e-cigarettes could be an entry point to the use of conventional tobacco products, including cigarettes.
