“Ever since I tried fitting it in four months ago, I work out every single day,” Said Wentland “even with school, soccer, work, and chores at home.”

Even with putting time into working out, you need to have a balanced diet too. Putting the time in goes hand in hand with effort and results aren’t always instant.

“People assume you see results right away but that’s not always true,” Said Senior at the University of North Dakota Cassie Jensen, “it takes four weeks for you to notice results, eight weeks for family and friends to notice and 12 weeks for other people to notice”

The key is to stay motivated and make sure you focus on different muscle groups and systems. It’s recommended that teens to 20’s work out at least five days a week per 30 minute intervals. It’s also recommended you take days out of the week where you let your body rest.

“I usually use Sunday as the day I don’t do any workouts,” said Jensen, “Your body needs days to relax and focus on another part of your fitness.”

“If you wanna get in shape it’s easier than it seems if you just put in the time even if you don’t see results you have to keep going and eventually you will see them.” Said Wentland.

Wash Up or Ooze Out https://www.hoofprint.net/wash-up-or-ooze-out/2013/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=wash-up-or-ooze-out Wed, 15 May 2013 17:19:03 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=15916 “Skin oozes watery pus. It itches like crazy. it’s sort of blistery. If you touch it, it can spread to other parts of the body.”

Impetigo is a skin disease that is spread by skin contact with someone who is infected. It is commonly spread in sports because of body contact. Wrestling in particular.

“Sometimes we have multiple matches in a row and people just don’t shower,” said Junior Auston Alvarez.

To help prevent spread of skin diseases this year the wrestling team has given the athletes disinfecting wipes but the downfall is they sting your eyes and irritate your skin so many of the wrestlers don’t use them as much as they should.

“I used the wipes on my cheeks, but I didn’t on my forehead and thats where I got the impetigo.” said Alvarez.

There are also other sports as well that you can get impetigo in, like football and lacrosse. There was a recent instance where a girls lacrosse player inherited the disease due to poor cleansing of equipment. The same reason Senior Tyler Maxson came in contact with another skin disease in football his sophomore year.

Maxson has had the disease known as MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus)

“MRSA is a staph infection. Staph infections can usually be treated by methicillin or penicillin but MRSA is resistant to these drugs so they need to use new and unique drugs to get rid of it.” said Maxson “The only problem with this is that they can adapt to the new drugs and become resistant to them as well.”

Staying clean and making sure to get monthly appointments to the doctors office can help prevent and get rid of diseases if you have become infected, or if you want to prevent any spread of disease. Showering after contact and when you are going to be in a body contact activity is the best way to prevent any incidents from happening.

Your Lunch Money Isn’t Going Where You Think it is… https://www.hoofprint.net/your-lunch-money-isnt-going-to-where-you-think-it-is/2013/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=your-lunch-money-isnt-going-to-where-you-think-it-is https://www.hoofprint.net/your-lunch-money-isnt-going-to-where-you-think-it-is/2013/#comments Fri, 15 Feb 2013 18:07:52 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=14923 Most seniors, when asked, thought their unspent  lunch money went to the school to help with paying for books, laptops and other school needs, but this isn’t the case.

“[After you graduate,] your lunch money can go to one of three places,” said Secretary Linda Thompson. “The Angel Account; a younger sibling in the same lunch program or your parent can call the school and ask for a refund.”

The Angel Account is an account that is set up for students who can’t afford lunch; it helps fund their lunches so they can eat.

“I wouldn’t mind my money being used for laptops or anything else just as long as it’s for a good purpose,” said Senior Albert Dela Cruz

Usually the only time your money would be used for the Angel Account is if you don’t have a sibling in the same lunch program or your parents don’t call and ask for it to be refunded.

“I would be mad if I had like 100 dollars in there but since I don’t eat lunch here and only have five cents I don’t really care,” said Dela Cruz.

What A Surprise: A Valentine’s Day Story https://www.hoofprint.net/what-a-surprise-a-valentines-day-story/2013/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=what-a-surprise-a-valentines-day-story Thu, 14 Feb 2013 18:45:22 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=14895 It’s Valentine’s Day and all the couples unite; you can tell by the flowers, chocolates, and balloons. But in all seriousness, do we know the stories behind a person’s “love story”?

“We met through his sister [Valerie Campa], who also happens to be a friend of mine so it was kind of awkward,” said Junior Hannah Calder.

“The first time I saw him I liked him but didn’t know how to tell him. He sat on me in Val’s car after the St. Michael football game and he said “Who am I sitting on?!” I believe that was his exact words,” said Calder. “After that I had Brianna Christianson get his number from Val’s phone and I texted him, turns out he wanted to text me too. Val felt a little weird about it at first but she’s cool with it now and it’s been great.”

You’d be surprised by how people meet, and not everyone knows the little “love stories” behind them. If you take a chance to listen, you may pleasantly surprised.

“It’s like a push-up bra for your butt” https://www.hoofprint.net/its-like-a-push-up-bra-for-your-butt/2013/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=its-like-a-push-up-bra-for-your-butt Thu, 17 Jan 2013 18:02:20 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=14038 “It’s like a push-up bra for your butt,” said Junior Roni Oistad.

Now what could she be talking about? Yoga pants. The craze of BHS girl students and apparently a craze for boys as well.

Students decided to give their opinions on this “hot” new craze. Whether it be yoga pants, leggings, or spandex why do you wear them? “They’re comfortable and are an excuse to be lazy and cute,” said Oistad. Unfortunately yoga pants aren’t fitted for everyone.

“If yoga pants were socially acceptable to wear for guys I would wear them,” said Senior Logan Gruber, “because people have told me they are really comfortable.”

Not all people agree with wearing yoga pants. Surprisingly enough more girls interviewed than boys had negative things to say about yoga pants.

“Yoga pants are made for yoga not school”, said Sophomore Jessica Beckers.

Girls described yoga pants as too revealing. Are these pants designed to leave nothing to imagination or just for comfort.

“Everyone knows you wear yoga pants to accentuate your assets,” said Senior Adriana Charriez.

Fifteen out of 15 teachers surveyed agreed skirts are getting shorter. The question is how short is too short?

“I think you should be able to walk up the stairs without me seeing your underwear,” said English Teacher Tracy Hagstrom Durant.

Some choose to go with the more respectful route and prefer longer skirts. Taking a secondary approach to the typical high school boy stereotype.

“Six inches above the knee is a good length,” said Freshman Adam Treptau.

Others  may agree to disagree.

“I like when my girlfriend wears them,” said Senior JP Newman.

Opinions may vary depending on who the person the short skirt or short shorts are on. Protective brothers and sister or even parents may completely reject the idea of a short skirt or short.

“My sisters skirt will have to be past the knees,” said Newman.

Whatever angle you take the battle of the inches will continue to wage on at Buffalo High School.

Taking the Plunge https://www.hoofprint.net/taking-the-plunge/2012/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=taking-the-plunge Fri, 02 Nov 2012 16:18:13 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=13325 Looking down from the edge of space, Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner, slowly pushes his way out of the balloon pod and prepares to drop 128,176 feet through the air. Plummeting at a top speed of 833.9 miles per hour breaking the sound barrier, taking the biggest risk in free-falling history.

Although not as dangerous as Baumgartner, BHS students and staff have also taken some risks and conquered fears.

“I was at the quarries and I hate heights so right off the bat going there might have been a mistake. I didn’t know the cliffs were that high” Said Senior Chris Whited,”I decided to do the medium one because I didn’t wanna be called a girl by my friends. I had stuttered a few times and then I had a YOLO moment and just ran. When I was free-falling, one thing that went through my mind is, ‘Is this happening?’, and when I surfaced I realized I did it!”

“I went to Europe for a month to pursue professional basketball,” said Assistant Principal Kris Thompson. “It payed good money but just wasn’t what I wanted to do, so I came back and went to college.”

“I started to get really bored, so I told my friends that I’d crawl through a fire naked for $20,” said Sophomore Adam Skelly. “It was worth it for $20.00, I’d do almost anything for $20.00.”

Student Body vs. Student Council https://www.hoofprint.net/homecoming/2012/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=homecoming Thu, 04 Oct 2012 17:21:05 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=12839 Homecoming dress up days are complained about every year and this year isn’t the exception, “I think they are very boring and don’t think there are many things people can dress up as,” says Senior Julie Spreeman.

Out of 110 BHS students polled 70% supported the idea of the student body voting for the days.

“We try to pick all of the days based upon general appropriateness and creativity and general fun, we want everybody to have a good time but nothing that would cause too much academic unrest,” says Senior Michael Swearingen.
Class color day is brought back to homecoming week every year.

“Class color day is always dangerously popular. In fact it’s so bad that the administration has to protect the freshman hallway,” says  Swearingen.

Out of 51 surveyed, 37 said that class color day was their favorite day during homecoming week.

“I like class color day because everybody is divided up into four colors and you can tell who everyone is,” says Sophomore Jessica Beckers.

The four colors that line the halls in BHS on the Thursday of homecoming week are yellow for freshman, red for sophomores, blue for juniors, and the long awaited black for seniors. There is always a huge turnout with the students and the staff dressing up.
