THIS IS NOT HAPPENING AND IS NOT TRUE. We just wanted to see and hear their reactions.

Siblings…They Influence Us https://www.hoofprint.net/siblings-they-influence-us/2015/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=siblings-they-influence-us Mon, 01 Jun 2015 16:34:04 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=20013 We asked a variety of students at BHS and it turns out our older siblings have a lot of influence on us in many different ways. One way that stood out to us was, maybe just maybe, our older siblings influence who we hangout with, rather it’s male or female. Yes, there are loop holes to everything and some people have different opinions. We did some research and found that female students with older brothers, tend to hangout with or have more guy friends. Girls who have older sisters, tend to hangout with or have more girls who are friends. I also figured out that students with both an older brother and older sister hangout with a majority of one gender, it varied between rather they were male or female.

I asked many guys if their older siblings had some sort of influence on rather they hangout with girls or guys, and a major majority stated that they felt it didn’t matter rather they had an older sister or an older brother, or even both. They still have about an equal amount of female and male friends. This might be silly but it’s brought realization that older siblings influence younger siblings more then they tend to know.

E-Cigs: Harmful or Not? https://www.hoofprint.net/e-cigs-harmful-or-not/2015/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=e-cigs-harmful-or-not Mon, 02 Mar 2015 18:08:53 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=19267 Cigarettes. Cigarettes kill 400,000 Americans per year. They are legal, but very lethal. It is said that one of out every five Americans are addicted.

There is now an alternative product called E-Cigs.  An E-Cig is a “battery powered vaporizer which has a similar feel to tobacco smoking.”

There is limited evidence suggesting that e-cigarettes are more safe than traditional cigarettes. Electronic cigarette usage appears to be similar in toxicity to the use of other nicotine replacement products. No long-term studies have shown that e-cigarettes are a “healthier alternative” to traditional cigarettes.

So why smoke them?

“They are fun, and you can do cool tricks with them. They also taste good, but they are mostly fun,”  said an Anonymous Junior

Altogether, in 2012 more than 1.78 million middle and high school students nationwide had tried e-cigarettes. This raises concern that there may be young people for whom e-cigarettes could be an entry point to the use of conventional tobacco products, including cigarettes.

Are you sleepy? https://www.hoofprint.net/are-you-sleepy/2015/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=are-you-sleepy Thu, 26 Feb 2015 20:52:55 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=19237 Updating your Twitter feed, liking photos on Instagram or you can’t stop watching Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix … A couple minutes turns into hours when you are on your phone or laptop at night.

“I go on my phone before bed and then realize I’ve been on it for a couple hours.” said Junior Sabrina Kumlin,

The next morning you wake up with less than the recommended amount of sleep because your phone kept you awake. When using your devices at night, the artificial light releases the sleep-promoting hormone “melatonin.” It tells your brain it’s not time for bed yet.

“I feel like if I would put my phone away I would fall asleep a lot quicker than if I wasn’t on it.” said Kumlin.

If you are looking for a better nights sleep, turn on “Do Not Disturb” or put it on silent so you aren’t woken up by a text or notification.

“I always put it on silent before I go to bed so I don’t wake up from a text or notification.” said Junior Jill Golden.

Bison Girls Hockey to STATE! https://www.hoofprint.net/state-baby/2015/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=state-baby Sat, 14 Feb 2015 04:46:28 +0000 https://www.hoofprint.net/?p=19081 Nerves were running high on February 13th at the Brainerd Hockey Areana during the Section 8AA championship  hockey game.

“Before the game, I was not that nervous until I actually started warming up and saw the other team,” said Senior Sydney Driver. “When we were on the ice doing starting line ups, my stomach starting flipping and I got butterflies.”

During the first period, the momentum went back and fourth between the Bison and the Rams. The bison had a break down in their defensive end which resulted in the Rams first goal.

“After the first period, we were down 1:0 and the atmosphere was so weird. We were all really calm and we just refused to lose,” explained Driver.

After the second period, the Bison went into the locker room tied 2:2 against the Rams.

The Bison Girls Hockey Team pulled through to a win after being down 2:0 at the beginning of the second period to beat the Roseau Rams 4:2.

“When we won the game after coming back from being down two goals, it was the greatest feeling ever. I will always remember the feeling. When I got out of the locker room, I looked at my dad and I could tell he was proud of me.” said Driver.

Tears were shed by the players, coaches, and parents after the win with the realization that the team was going to get the opportunity to play in the MSHL Girls Hockey Tournament. For many players, the opportunity to get a chance play at the Excel Energy Center and to play in a state tournament is the ultimate goal. The girls have devoted a large amount of time to completing this goal by playing year round and by practicing on Saturday mornings. Their hard work has paid off.

“Winning the game and going to the state tournament is honestly one of the best things I could ask for and I would not want to be there with any other team.” said Driver.

This will be the very first state appearance for the Bison Girls Hockey Team since the split with the Wright County Blades in 2005.

The Bison will being playing on Thursday at 1:00PM against the Edina Hornets.

“We can do it and we will show everyone we are meant to be there.” says Driver.
