Lack of enthusiasm in boys winter sports?

“School Spirit” seems to have disappeared in the BHS student section this year. The scarcity of enthusiasm this year makes the student section almost seem lifeless.

In past years, the student section has roared with excitement, rocking the building. Fans have seemed to have lacked that sort of excitement of roaring chants or Super Fans.

”We don’t have that shock and awe factor we have had in previous years.” junior defefensemen Michael Sawdey.

Fans this year have seemed distant or inattentive at games, rather making post game plans or deciding to leave to the game early. Sometimes, fans simply don’t show up at all, which has been the case for this year’s boys basketball team.

With what has seemed to be a disappointing season this far the boys basketball team has received little support from the students of BHS. After coming off a State Tournament appearance you would think that fans would be wired for the season to begin.

“I think we deserve every bit of the lack of attendendance at our games. We need to put on a people want to see and unfortunately we haven’t been able to do that,” said senior Cory Thielman.

“Our student section varies game to game, but when there are a lot of students present I believe I believe it makes the game more exciting,” said by senior Dan Holland.

The last two weeks the hockey team has seen a growing student section coming to games.

“The more fun we have with it, I think more people will come to the game,” Holland said.

Junior Max Hershley has seemed to spark the student section this year by bringing an assortment of signs and props to the games. His favorite sign so far has been a giant cutout of his favorite two players, or his customized  mannequin.

“I started bringing signs and stuff cause are hockey team needed some support,” Hershley said, “and our student section was lacking enthusiasm.”
