Boys Hockey Team falls to Moorhead in Section Playoffs

On Saturday, February 28 the Bison Boys Hockey Team played the Moorhead Spuds at the SCSU arena in St. Cloud.  The Bison had previously defeated the Brainerd Warriors on Tuesday, February 24 to advance to the second round in Section Playoffs.

In the first period the Spuds were ahead 1-0, though the Bison had more shots on goal.  Halfway through the period Bison fans jumped to their feet as Senior Nick Johnson buried the puck in the net.  Excitement turned to anger as the referees exchanged words with the Moorhead coach and called the goal off.  In addition Junior Billy Ogdahl received a penalty for “interfering with the goalie.”

“No one interfered with the goalie,” said Senior Cole Meyer, “Everyone could see that the goal was legit.  Moorhead scored on the power play and that totally changed the game.  It went from being a tied game to 2-0.  We lost all our momentum after that, everyone was so disappointed.  Moorhead can thank the refs for that game.”

The final score of the game was 4-0, advancing Moorhead to the third and final round in playoffs.  For the last 20 years Moorhead and Roseau have played in the Section 8AA championship to determine who goes to State.

“We were hoping this would be our year,” said Senior Zach Blaisdell.  “We have a better record than both those teams and our leading scorers have more points than theirs.  We definitely could have beaten them, but luck just wasn’t on our side…  and neither were the refs.”
