Girls’ Basketball beats STMA again, advances to the State Tournament!

The Buffalo Bison Girls’ Basketball Team had a huge win in the section finals over arch rival St. Michael-Albertville Friday, March 11 at St. John’s University. The win gives the Bison the section 8AAAA championship, and advances them to the state basketball tournament for the second time in the last three years.

Buffalo got off to a slow start, and found themselves trailing 19-6 mid way through the first half, before rallying back and only trailing by 5 at half time 25-20. Buffalo came out of the break fired up and dominated the Knights in the second half, out scoring them 33-14.

Junior Alexa Thielman led the Bison with 14 points in the contest, while senior Malorie Schmidt added 12 points, and senior Molly Muntifering contributed 11 points in the victory.

The win brings Buffalo’s record to 25-3, and advances them to the 2011 Girls’ State Basketball Tournament. The Bison will play the Hopkins Royals (27-2) in the first round at 10 a.m on Wednesday, March 16 at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

The winner advances to the state semi-finals on Thursday, March 17 at 6 p.m, where they will either face the White Bear Lake Bears or the Maple Grove Crimson.
