BHS takes major step toward eliminating the block schedule tonight

The Four-Block schedule’s days are numbered.

Starting in the Fall of 2023, Buffalo High School plans to have a new daily schedule. The 80-minute, four class, block schedule will be gone, replaced with either a trimester schedule or a modified block schedule that features “skinny” periods that allow students to take year-long classes in core subject areas.

The scheduling committees have narrowed the 15 options they initially reviewed down to two. They will be giving their final recommendation to the school board tonight, Tuesday, October 19.

The catalyst for the scheduling change according to Principal Mark Mischke is the large class size of the block schedule. Either of the current options would have shorter classes, allowing for smaller classes and more planned interventions for struggling students.

There will be an update posted in the coming weeks outlining the two schedule options and the timeline for implementation.
