President Obama possibly seeking third term

Barak Obama-United States-Politics

House member, Jose Serrano, has recently introduced a bill that would essentially nullify the 22nd amendment of the United States, lifting the limit of presidential terms. In other words, if this bill passes, Obama could seek re-election as many times as he would like, narrowing the presidential ballot. Some would call this a well-disguised dictatorship, and others would say that this is the best, most fair method of election.

“The 22nd amendment should stay in place, it prevents dictatorships and encourages the introduction of fresh, new ideas,” said Senior Gunner Schwanke.

In order for the bill to pass,–and nullify the clause of the 22nd amendment setting a limit on the number of presidential terms–it must be passed on by the Judiciary Committee, House of Representatives, Senate, and the executive branch where the bill would be signed by the president, and then be approved by 3/4 of the states. Serrano has been trying to pass similar legislation for the past decade, and is yet to have any success.

“It should be left to the voters,” said Social Studies teacherĀ Cynthia Khalil. “The people can put him into office, and the people can take him out.”

President Obama has both avid supporters, and avid opponents. Some argue him to be a war-latent dictator, considering relentless drone strikes in Yemen, Pakistan, and Afghanistan resulting in civilian casualties, American citizens included. In 2012, Obama ordered 447 drone strikes on Middle Eastern countries. Others argue that the strikes are necessary, and that it’s part of the job. Either way, he remains enveloped in controversy.

“It should be left to the voters,” said Social Studies teacher Cynthia Khalil. “The people can put him into office, and the people can take him out.”

“You can’t do that, and he’s an idiot,” said Sophomore Katie Harty.
