Boys’ Basketball falls to #9 in AAA Zimmerman

The Buffalo Boys’ basketball team hosted Zimmerman, the #9 team in AAA, on Thursday. The Varsity lost 57-62, making their record 14-7

Although Zimmerman is no longer in the Mississippi 8 Conference, Thursday’s game was still an important one. Zimmerman is ranked #9 in the state for AAA, and is a very fundamentally sound team. They are at the top of the Granite Ridge Conference and now have a record of 17-4.

The Bison were the first on the boards with two free throws from an early foul committed by a Zimmerman player. Senior Dom Gilmer led the Bison with 9 points at the half, but Zimmerman took a five point lead before the break.

The Bison battled back in the second half. There were a few different lead changes, but the lead never got above 5 for either teams. Tying the game up with about two minutes remaining, things started falling in place for Zimmerman again after a time out. They hit an early field goal and Senior Caleb Ruter went to the bench picking up his 5th foul.

The Bison kept even with the thunder in the second half, but couldn’t climb back from a five point hole at the half. The final score was 62-57. Gilmer ended the game with 17 points and both Ruter and Freer netted 10 in the defeat.

The boys are looking to get back into things with a rematch against Big Lake at 7:15 pm here at BHS. In their previous meeting with the Hornets, the Bison fell 43-47 in another close battle. Friday they have another home game against Rogers also at 7:15.
