Boys’ and Girls’ Golf have double header. Bollant Takes First

With no rain in the forecast for only a handful of times this season, the Buffalo Bison boy’s and girl’s golf team competed in a double header at St. Cloud. Country Club on Thursday, May 19.

The Girls teed off first at 9 a.m and almost brought home the first place plaque. Buffalo ended up finishing in a tie for second shooting a team score of 338, three strokes behind first place Detroit Lakes (335).

Not only leading the Bison, but leading the entire field and bringing home the first place medal was Freshman Lexi Bollant shooting a one over par round of 73. 8th grader Madi Jewell contributed to the team score with a round of 82, while senior Abby Bollum and sophomore Emma Theis added rounds of 88 and 95.

Buffalo assistant coach Joe Bollant commented that Jewell’s round of 82 is her career round.

“She just keeps getting better and better!” said Bollant.

In round two of the day’s action was the boy’s tournament, teeing off around 1:30 p.m. Buffalo finished in a strong tie for fourth shooting a team score of 311. Third place went to Willmar (306), second went to Orono (303), and first place went to Rogers (293).

Leadind the Bison and tieing for fourth place overall was senior Alex Holtan, shooting a round of two over par 74. 8th grader Gunnar Goodmanson added a round of 77, while Junior Dan Bollant and Freshman Hunter Bruhn contributed to the team score with rounds of 78 and 82. Senior Morgan Lubben and Junior Tommy Olson also played for the Bison but did not contribute to the team score (best 4 scores count). Lubben shot 85 while Olson shot 86.

The match medalist was the top ranked player in state McCabe Buege from Rogers with a round of 8 under par 64.

“We might of taken fourth but the thing were more excited about is the fact we beat all the teams in our section” said Freshman Hunter Bruhn. “Alexandria, Brainerd, St. Cloud Tech, St. Michael, and Fergus Falls. Their all in our section and we beat them all by a couple strokes. Now we know we can compete and have a chance at winning sections which we’re very excited about.”
