Bison Youth Meet shows strong future for Track and Field

On Saturday, May 16 the Bison Track and Field team hosted the Bison Youth meet. It was a fund raiser for the year to come and it was very successful. Kindergarten through sixth grade kids attended the meet in a variety of events. The meet ran the same way as a high school meet only with less kids and less events. There were only kids from the BHM school district and they competed against each other for first place ribbons.

It was hard to tell that it was the middle of May because it felt like October or November. The temperature was 37 degrees with a strong wind of 10 to 20 miles per hour. The kids were all bundled up and were being blown across the track in every direction. Not only was it cold for the athletes but the parents who came to watch were also cold, everyone was so bundled it looked like the  middle of winter.

The cold weather did not stop the kids from having a great time. Many of the kids had smiles from ear to ear. “It was great helping these kids, I had a great time just watching them have so much fun,” says Sophmore Ethan Kawlinowski. Not only did they have a good time but they also showed how strong the Bison will be in years to come. The future is very bright for the Bison Track and Field team, they have many younger kids who will soon be on the High School team.

The High School Track and Field Team ran the event and helped the younger kids get the hang of how track meets work and just how fun they are. From the smiles on the kids faces one would guess that they were having a great time. The weather was hard to work with but the kids did not show it at all. It was a very succesful event and the future of the Track Team looks very bright.
